In Pre-K, students have been learning more about surreal art and artist Joan Miro. They are using art dice to create collaborative Miro-inspired artworks using marker and crayon. They are exploring modeling clay by creating 3d versions of their Miro drawings and then using their new skills to make colorful surrealist clay faces. Weather permitting, our last day of art class will be a free chalk art day outside in the parking lot.
In Kindergarten & First Grade, students have been continuing learning about Surrealism and artist Joan Miro as well as exploring modeling clay and air dry clay as mediums. They are creating realistic clay turtles using their new clay skills and painting details.
In Second Grade, students have been using modeling clay to create small 3d replicas of their classroom research project animals. They are learning about Surrealism and creating collaborative "Surrealist People" using the exquisite corpse method, and lastly they will be creating fun surreal toilet paper roll monsters using marker, paint, feathers.
In Third & Fourth Grade, students finished up creating their CD mandalas and learning about radial symmetry. Now they are using air dry clay to create dragons eggs and fantasy creatures and using paint to create details.
In Fifth Grade, students are continuing learning about different ecosystems following their mixed media rainforest project and now creating 3d deserts using air dry clay complete with pop up backgrounds using tempera paint. They are exploring different desert landforms, flora, and fauna and creating realistic 3d models of each.
